What is ClassDojo?

ClassDojo is a classroom tool that helps teachers improve behavior in their classrooms quickly and easily. It also captures and generates data on behavior that teachers can share with parents and administrators.
Children will earn and deduct points throughout the day. Talking and being off task is to be expected for 3rd grade students, their kids. I will deduct points for these disruptive behaviors, and reward for positive behaviors. Please do not be alarmed if you see several deducted points in one day. What to look for is points being deducted for having their card flipped. The card will be flipped if the disruptive behavior has not been corrected after being given a warning and point deducted.
Children will be rewarded based on their points.

Brain Based Teaching

Technology has generated one of the greatest transformations in the way we as individuals access information, communicate and live. There is a growing body of research suggesting that repeated exposure to technology is causing the brain to rewire in different ways than in previous generations. Let me provide an example. Studies have concluded that over exposure to television, fragments children's attention span as well as decrease active imagination. The invention of the internet further changed the way we gather information and how the brain process it. Children in today's generation typically have an attention span equivalent to their age. So how do we effectively engage today's children in our fast paced society?
Brain based learning and teaching is "purposeful engagement of strategies that apply to how our brain works in the context of education." In simple terms, the brain in involved in everything that we are involved in and connected with. (Eric Jensen)
In blogs to come, I will provide strategies and examples of engaging activities to enhance children's learning ability to retain information.
I'm looking forward to sharing my research and journey with you!
